About me

Hello there!

I’m Seán Leahy (the dude in the picture) and I’ve been on an exciting journey as an Irish filmmaker for the past eight to nine years, where I’ve learned to home in on my craft as a filmmaker. This journey is still something that I’m passionately navigating at this moment in my life, despite being the ripe old age of twenty-one.

In my quest to deepen my understanding of film in its respective fields of academia and technological knowhow, I decided to pursue a bachelor’s degree at University College Cork, where I have been immersing myself in the world of Film and Screen media as my major. Over my last two years in the course, I have been able to unleash my creativity via a multitude of projects, including several short films, deep dived blog posts and countless academic essays, all of which can be accessed here.

In addition to studying Film and Screen Media as my major, I’ve been exploring the realm of English as my minor, which has been a surprisingly captivating subject that has complemented my filmmaking endeavours. In particular it has been useful in areas such as writing narratives, improving plot structures, developing characters, and understanding the basic concept of storytelling itself.

Besides my interacting with the world of filmmaking through the prism of my BA course, I decided to peruse my probing into it outside of my course as well, so that I could deepen my roots within the Irish filmmaking community. In my pursuit of this goal, I’ve actively taken up roles a committee member for various indigenous Irish films clubs and societies, with the notable among these being The People’s Picture House Cork and the UCC Film and Photography Society. The first of which aims to promote films produced by local talent in Cork City on a monthly basis by showcasing their films to the public, with latter orchestrating film screenings every two weeks alongside curating special events like industry workshops and photography day trips for UCC students.

Beyond the committee member roles that I’ve taken on, I’ve also explored my passion for film as creative medium by founding Visuals: Cork’s Silent Film Club. With the aim of the club being to screen silent era films to the public and promote their cultural and historical value to them and society at large.

Go raibh maith agat as léamh / Thanks for reading,

Seán.
